Buying horses from a selling or claiming race is a lot of fun and a great day out.
So why does Bucks Racing go down this route?
We use all the modern techniques to analysis each horse's pedigree from a dosage and breeding point of view. We can find something in a horse other trainers can't see.
Its affordable especially compared to other ways of owning a horse. Typical outlay for 5 people is only £1500 per person for the horse and £360 per person per month.
We use experienced conformation experts, even if a horse works out well on paper if he does not have the size and scope we will not buy.
We only buy horses from claiming or selling races that have been running over 5 to 8 furlongs because we are looking for horses that have been bred to get much further distances.
We are looking for sound horses that have had a number of races and that can stand up to racing.
We don't want to buy any horse that has a long period of time off or has had breathing problems. Horses that need a tongue strap are ones that have soft pallet or breathing problems which effects over 20% of thoroughbred horses.
Because trainers know that selling races are not popular with people they will enter horses in the expectation that they wont get claimed. Horses that have never been entered in a selling race before are good targets for us.
We are looking for size and scope so that we can potentially go hurdling with theses horses.
We want horses young enough to retrain and 3 to 4 years of age are our targets, especially if we want to go hurdling with them.
There is limited down size to Bucks Racing unlike buying from the sales. If the target horse does not retrain in 6 months time then we can go back to selling races and hopefully win a races or two where it will be claimed and we can start again.
